“To enrich the quality of life for children within the Dallas Community by giving them a chance to realize their potential”

LOVE FOR KIDS INJURY PREVENTION is an ongoing partnership to conduct bicycle, helmet and pedestrian safety with Ben Spies/Elbowz Cycling Team.  The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that in 2012, 726 individuals were killed in bicycle/motor vehicle crashes.  Additionally, the number of bicyclist injuries was an estimated 49,000.   The Ben Spies/Elbowz Cycling Team conducts bicycle helmet distribution and education for approximately 5000 children and parents yearly.

LOVE FOR KIDS LITTLE FREE LIBRARY is an initiative to promote literacy and a love for reading by giving away free books for age’s newborn to high school aged young adults.  This initiative is based on the “take a book, leave a book” that has become so popular.  Recipients are allowed to take a book and leave a book or they can leave a thank you note.   Love for Kids gets all books donated by local community residents as well as local book stores such as Half Price Books.  In 2015 over 2500 books will be distributed at our center and though our signature events that target children.

LOVE FOR KIDS TEEN ADVISORY BOARD is a program that addresses the need for sustainable life skills and mentoring for young teens.   Love for Kids will partner with an area nonprofit to engage their youth groups that are ages 14 -18 years old.  The teen groups participate on all Love for Kids signature event planning committees and they volunteer with partnering education and outreach vendors on the day of events.

By participating on the planning committees the teens will learn all aspects of project planning such as budgeting, leadership, communication and SMART goal setting.  Teens will also have the opportunity to gain a mentor that also participates on the committees.  The teen advisory groups will participate and help plan all 3 signature events.  These teens will have the opportunity to spend a day at the Circle R Ranch and they must maintain academic progress in school to participate on the Teen Advisory Boar

LOVE FOR KIDS coordinates an “Annual Children’s Holiday Event.”   Approximately 2,000 underserved and high risk children are invited to one of the largest events of its kind.  Groups are invited through local recreation centers, schools and other partnering non-profit agencies. Children between the ages of 6 – 12 years of age enjoy a day of entertainment, horseback riding, outdoor games, hay rides, carnival games, food and prizes.  Children are also required to visit “education stations.”  The stations are opportunities for children to interactively experience and learn about bicycle and helmet safety, drug prevention, obesity, health education and other topics.  This event is an EDUCATIONAL event.

LOVE FOR KIDS coordinates the “All Kids Count” event for chronically ill and special needs children and their families.  Over 600 families attend this event that is planned with special entertainment for children with disabilities and their siblings, parents, grandparents, and caregivers.  This also serves as a resource and education day for parents.  Parents will learn about programs that exist specifically for their child’s needs.  Partnering programs offer quality educational services that support special needs and chronically ill children and their family needs.  This event is a RESOURCE event.

LOVE FOR KIDS coordinates an annual “Spring Fling” senior citizens event.  This event has over 1000 senior citizens in attendance at this resource and outreach fair.  The seniors experience music, fellowship, lunch and obtain needed information such as  caregiver resources, education and jobs for seniors and in-home help and nursing home information just to name a few. This event is an OUTREACH event.

Love for Kids educates and provides outreach for approximately 800 parents and over 3000 children and teens on an annual basis.

Love for Kids engages over 1000 divers, multi-generational volunteers that participate as mentors, work at our events and they also participate in the planning of our signature events.  We are always in need of additional volunteers and welcome the opportunity to form new partnerships.
